Live the life of a traditional cattleman, and solve the mysteries of the villages and landscapes of the Gruyère Pays-d’Enhaut Regional Nature Park. The Cheese Trails application allows you to do just that. The application Cheese Trails is available in French / German / English. It will automatically detect the language of your telephone and adapt to it. No adjustment is necessary.

This application introduces the walker to the natural and cultural riches along the Cheese Trails of Le Gruyère AOP and L’Étivaz AOP. These historic routes link Les Avants, Charmey, L’Etivaz and Rougemont through 21 stages of 1 to 4 hours, all accessible by public transport.

The application adapts to the interests of each user, highlighting key locations and nearby restaurants for meal stops. Find out more about the historical use of these trails in short films about the cheese trade in the 17th and 18th centuries, when these routes carried cheese to the markets of France.

The centrepiece is the Cheese Hunt game, a fun way to learn more about the history and traditions of the Gruyère and Pays-d’Enhaut region. Decipher the carvings on the chalets in Rougemont, find out why all the stones were removed from the alpages, put yourself in the picture, or discover a mysterious open-roofed chapel. Earn rewards throughout your adventures and share them with family and friends.

FAQ about The Cheese Trails Application

In what languages is the application available ?

The app is available in three languages : French / German / English. It will automatically detect the language of your telephone and adapt to it. No adjustment is necessary. If your phone is set to a language other than the three above, the app will appear in the default language of English. For technical reasons, the download page is only available in French. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Why does the application require more than 90Mo ?

Because of the topographic map which is an integral part of the application. You can use the map when cellular service is not available. Therefore, you do not need to be connected to your phone network and you can use the application at no additional cost.

Nevertheless, it is recommended that you download the application with the help of a wi-fi network.

Will using the application cost me anything or use my communication minutes ?

No, the application runs  without an internet connection. Only the contents of the Media menu and/or buying a game prize requires access to your internet network or a wi-fi connection. I do not want to be staring at my phone will I hike. 

I don't feel like walking around looking at my screen. How can I still be notified of points of interest that I shouldn't miss ?

Just open the stage you wish to hike (map mode), and put away your phone. A message will inform you when there is a point of interest nearby that fits the criteria you designated in your preferences.

How do I change my preferences ?

In the Tools menu at the top of the home screen.

Why does the "To see" tab change contents ?

Because it's constantly adapting according to your preferences, the time of day, and the weather.
