Gruyères – Pringy – Fin de Chenau – Villars-sous-Mont – Neirivue

The route leaves the city of Gruyères and descends to Pringy, where you can visit the Maison du Gruyère and learn all about Gruyère AOP through cheese-making demonstrations and tastings.
From here, the trail climbs through Chésalles forest and rejoins the road and Fin de Chenau. Traverse pastures to Afflon stream and follow the stream for several hundred meters before returning to pastures and forest overlooking the Sarine Valley. The route then follows the road above Villars-sous-Mont to Pra stream. From the stream, a forested service road allows access to Pechots Alpage (alpine pastures/farm) above Neirivue. From here, the Via continues to follow the road, while a trail descends to the village of Neirivue.

La Maison du Gruyère

An interactive exhibit helps you discover the production process of Gruyère AOP. A restaurant and shop offer local specialties. The Maison du Gruyère is a cheese factory where you can discover all the secrets of making Gruyère AOP cheese and more. The magic of the transformation of milk into cheese happens from 9 to 11am and from 12:30 to 2:30pm. As visitors look on, the master cheese-maker produces 48 Gruyère AOP wheels which are then aged in a cellar that can contain up to 7,000 wheels. The exhibit Voyage au cœur des sens (Journey of the senses) answers all your questions in a ludic and interesting fashion. The cows' ascent to the mountain pastures, with bells clanging, starts your look (and opens your ears) into the life of a drop of milk. Your olfactory sense will be stimulated by distinctive, perfumed aromas, and your sense of touch awakened, as you run fingers over grasses, cow hide, whitewash… Visual stimulation is omnipresent. You can admire the art of cheese-maker at work, as well as numerous images and videos. Your tastebuds most certainly will not be neglected, as you are invited to sample Gruyère AOP at three different stages of maturity.

Combes Chapel

Affectionally called the pink chapel (La chapelle rose) for its color, overlooks the Intyamon valley. Built in 1897, the chapel is an example of neo-gothic architecture. Its decorative murals are of the same origin as it solid oak altar. The Virgin and Child still sit here today, surrounded by Saint Philomène and Saint Elisabeth.
